Hometown USA Community Park

About this event

SCCA Milwaukee Region presents

SPRING SCAMPER car rally - Madison, Wisconsin

Sunday April 2, 2023

a Charity fund raising rally for the Best Friends Animal Society

Join your fellow car enthusiasts for this 4 hour, 120 mile time-speed-distance road rally designed by Rallymaster Jim Crittenden.  You and a partner (driver and navigator) will be issued a set of Route Instructions that will take you on a scenic journey through the marvelous country roads west of Madison, Wisconsin.  This is a "Tour" type rally and there are no traps or tricks - just drive, enjoy the great roads and marvelous scenery and try to arrive at each checkpoint at precisely the right time.  Awards will be presented to the teams who do the best job of arriving at the checkpoints at the proper times.  This is a rally designed especially for people with little or no rally experience.

We'll be using the Richta GPS checkpoint system to record your arrival time at each checkpoint.  Once you register, you'll receive information on how to download a custom app to your smartphone.  You'll keep this app open while you run the rally and it will use the GPS signal from your device to record your arrival time at each checkpoint.  Once you pass a checkpoint, the app will automatically calculate your score for that checkpoint and announce it to you!  No more waiting for the end of the rally to see how you did.  You'll see your score on each checkpoint as you go along.

This year Spring Scamper will be a charity benefit fundraiser for Best Friends Animal Sanctuary.

Located five miles north of Kanab, Utah, Best Friends Animal Sanctuary is the largest no-kill sanctuary for companion animals in the country. It is a home-between-homes for up to 1,600 animals on any given day.  Read more about them at www.bestfriends.org.

You should register in one of these three Classes:

Calculating Contestants can use any app or calculator to determine if they are running late or early along the rally route.  Dedicated rally computers such as Timewise and Alfa are not permitted in any class on Spring Scamper.

SOP  (Seat Of The Pants):  No timing calculations may be performed.  Drivers will use their speedometer to judge how to stay on time.  Navigators will announce the score at each checkpoint as reported by the Richta app and the driver will use that information to adjust speed for the next checkpoint.

First Timer:  Neither crew member has ever run a time-speed-distance rally before.

Start and finish location:  Verona, Wisconsin  (10 miles southwest of Madison)

Schedule:
Check-in opens:  9:30 AM         First Car Off:   11:01 AM        First Car Finished:   Approx 3:00 PM
