Spring Drive - Maryland

Baldwin's Station

About this event

This year we will host a Spring Drive through central Maryland!  On Sunday April 28, we'll trek through northern Howard and Carroll Counties from a rally point north of Washington DC (where we will meet around 10 AM). Our drive was expressly developed by our friends in Chesapeake Region and will include a ring route around beautiful Liberty Reservoir northwest of Baltimore.  Our drive will end at noontime in historic Sykesville at Baldwin's Station, "The Hottest Spot in the Coolest Small Town".  What is now Sykesville was founded at the turn of the 18th Century by a wealthy Baltimore landowner whose daughter became a sister-in-law to Napoleon Bonaparte.  During the Civil War, Gen JEB Stuart and his Confederate buddies ransacked the town on their way to bloody defeat in Gettysburg.  Through floods that drowned the Howard County side of town and various fires and reconstruction efforts,  Sykesville became what its former mayor called a "Norman Rockwell Painting".

Fast forward to today and Baldwin's Station (designed in 1883 by architect Francis Baldwin) will be the lunch venue for our Spring Drive.  Built in 1883 and designed by architect Francis Baldwin,  Baldwin’s Station is located on The Old Main Line, the oldest railway in the country, near the Patapsco River.   The old depot was restored to house the restaurant in 1997. Outside the station,  parking will be reserved by the town specifically for our Porsches.  A gentle reminder to make our cars look spiffy, for the restaurant will be inviting visitors and townspeople to come see them!

We will be ordering our meals ahead of time as part of our registration.  The meal will include:

First Course
Coastal Greens Salad: Cucumber, red onion, shaved carrot, cherry tomato & freshly grated asiago cheese, topped with balsamic vinaigrette

Second / Main Course (served with Kettle Chips):

Your choice of

  • Chicken Salad Wrap: Poached chicken breast tossed with roasted almonds, Granny Smith apples, and seasoned aioli, lettuce, tomato
  • Shrimp Salad Wrap: Poached Gulf shrimp, Old Bay, celery, onion, lettuce, tomato, or;
  • Turkey Caesar Wrap: Turkey with lettuce, tomato salsa, Asiago cheese, Caesar dressing, garlic tortilla

Soda, coffee & tea service are included in per person price and are unlimited refills.

PRICE:  $25.00 per person, inclusive of tax & gratuity, will be included as part of this registration.  Alcohol will be billed separately at the restaurant.

But what will also be cool is all the wonderful stuff you can do after lunch.  This includes the following!!

  • Visit Patapsco Distilling Company  just across from the station.  https://www.patapscodistilling.com/  Enjoy a free tour and tasting, and perhaps buy some of their bourbon, gin and vodka locally sourced from Maryland grains, in a historic building.
  • Enjoy ice cream (what is a Drive and Dine event without ice cream?).  Firehouse Creamery (next door to Baldwin's Station) and Norwood Ice Cream and Candy just up the street can satisfy your cravings.
  • Antique stores and a place called "Cowboys and Angels" where you can get a set of awesome cowboy or cowgirl boots.

DATE:   Sunday April 28 (registration required by April 20 as we need to provide our orders by no later than one week before the event)

RALLY POINT and DRIVE OVERVIEW:   To be provided to registrants.  We will meet somewhere between the ICC (MD-200) and I-70 and travel north toward and around Liberty Reservoir, and end our drive in Sykesville.  As usual, we will follow the rustic two-lanes.

PARKING / SHOW:  We will have space for up to 30 Porsches reserved for us by the town police and the restaurant.  Town locals and visitors will be invited to see our cool cars, so make 'em look sharp!

LUNCH:   $24 all inclusive at Baldwin's Station (salad, main course and soda/coffee, along with tax and gratuity), but not including alcohol. Registration and main course selection to be made as part of your registration.

SIGHTS TO SEE / THINGS TO CONSUME OR BUY:   Patapsco Distilling,  ice cream, antique stores, art and cowboy boots

Space is limited so be sure to sign up early. Up to 30 cars will have reserved spaces.

Enjoy this first-time Spring Drive event into this part of Maryland!  Your hosts are Glenn Havinoviski and Harvey Kabran.

It's not just the cars, it's the people!
