Join North Star BMW Club the weekend of May 31st - June 2nd for Sommer Schnell, our summer performance driving dchool, on the competition course at Brainerd International Raceway!
Important Notice: Required helmets are Snell SA or M rated years 2010 or 2015.
Sommer Schnell Driving School will run Saturday June 1st and Sunday June 2nd. This event is open to all drivers with an active BMW CCA membership, of all experience levels (though attendance of our Spring Car Control Clinic is highly recommended) and all makes of hardtop cars. Please see event requirements for exclusions as convertible cars, most SUV and other high center of gravity vehicles as most are not acceptable for this event. Cost for this school is $365.
Friday, May 31st, is a full day on track open to instructors and pre-approved, advanced/a-solo level drivers with a verifiable driving history. Cost of the Friday event is $215, or at a full weekend combo rate of $465 for advanced drivers. Please contact drivingschools@northstarbmw.org if you have not driven with us on our advanced/instructor days or with any questions on qualification. This Friday is also a great opportunity for newer drivers or those new to Brainerd Int'l Raceway registered for the weekend event to come out, watch from various vantage points within the circuit and ride along with instructors (helmet required)!
Tech Inspection
A tech inspection is required on any vehicle that will be driving on track at this event, with the North Star tech inspection form completely filled out and presented at the track for registration. Our sponsor providing track side support is offering a free tech inspection for all registered attendees at the following date and time, or a tech inspection at a shop of your choosing using the North Star BMW tech inspection form below.

Motorwerks BMW Complimentary Tech Inspection
Motorwerks BMW will once again be conducting a complimentary tech inspection for all attendees. The tech inspection is scheduled for May 2nd, 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. There is no appointment necessary for this period, just show up with your car and we’ll handle the rest!

Registration Details
Advanced registration will be held at a location near the hotel in which the block of rooms are reserved from 6:45 PM - 8:30 PM the Friday evening prior to the event. Details will be emailed to all registered attendees in advance. Location will be sent to all registered attendees prior to the event, plan on showing up early, enjoying some appetizers and hanging out for a while. Insure that the following items are in hand for registration!
- Driver's License
- Helmet
- Completed tech inspection form
Saturday Night Dinner Information:
We are continuing he long standing tradition of hosting dinner at Prairie Bay Grill Saturday evening, June 1st, at 7:00 PM for a cost of $36.00, meal choices are listed on the registration page.
Cancellation Policy
If your plans should change, you may designate a substitute to attend in your place at any time or you may transfer to another session or a different event PRIOR TO 3 business days of the event for which you have enrolled. In the event you need to cancel your registration, you may do so for a full refund if you inform us of your cancellation at least 30 business days before the start of the event. A $30.00 fee for Performance Driving Schools and $15 for Car Control Clinics will be charged for cancellation within 30 to 14 business days from the start date of the event. NO reimbursement will be made within 14 business days or if you fail to attend your scheduled session. Non-paid, no-shows registered by phone, mail, fax, or online via check will be billed.

Event requirements
BMW CCA membership is required to attend our Car Control Clinics and Performance Driving Schools. It is a simple process and you DO NOT NEED TO OWN A BMW: either call (864) 250-0022 or visit bmwcca.org (https://myaccount.bmwcca.org/PortalTools/NewUser/EmailCheck.cfm) to get your membership. A 1-year membership is $48.
Helmet - Snell SA or M 2010 or 2015 required - these are the only years that we accept. We also recommend neck braces and face shields. If you do not have a helmet, rentals are available within the twin cities. Please contact the event coordinator for details.
Tech Inspection - You are responsible for having your car inspected prior to the event, our sponsors will be scheduling an evening for complimentary inspections for all makes and models. Tech inspection forms will need to be submitted to North Star during the on site registration, and no accommodations will be made for on site inspections.
SUVs, vans, convertibles, targa, and t-tops are NOT allowed at Performance Driving School events.
NOTE: The following specific SAV (Sports Activity Vehicles) are allowed at Performance Driving School events: BMW X3, X5, and X6, as well as the Porsche Cayenne and Audi Q7. If you have any doubt if your vehicle qualifies, please contact us at: drivingschools@northstarbmw.org.
