Event requirements

Driver Requirements:

- Attendance is BY INVITATION ONLY

- Valid drivers license required.

MotorsportReg driver profile must be properly and completely filled out.  Do NOT assume "Oh, they know me already".  Fill your entire profile out properly, including emergency contact, previous track driving history, etc..  There really is a reason we ask for all of this information. We are all unpaid volunteers, and none of us wants to hound people for information they can't be bothered to provide.

Vehicle Requirements:

PERMITTED VEHICLES include track-worthy and safe sportscars only.

  • Street cars are permitted (defined by ASN Canada FIA as "production" vehicles).
    • Production cars are defined as "produced and available for purchase and delivery to the general public through the vehicle manufacture’s retail sales outlets."  Cars that are not licensed for street driving are considered "modified" (see below for requirements).
    • Production cars MUST run DOT-approved tires. Cars with non-DOT-approved tires are considered "modified" (see below for requirements).
  • Closed-wheel race cars are permitted (defined by ASN Canada FIA as "modified" vehicles).
    • All modified cars must have aftermarket rollover protection meeting ASN Canada FIA competition requirements (see Appendix C or D of this document).
    • All modified cars must have current 5- or 6-point harnesses.
    • SA helmets are required in modified vehicles (due to the roll cage).
    • Single-layer (or better) nomex suit required.
    • Racing slicks are permitted on modofied vehicles.
  • Open-wheel race cars are NOT permitted.  Under ASN Canada FIA rules, open-wheel cars would have to run in a separate session, and we have only one session available.
  • Trucks, Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs), and Sport Activity Vehicles (SAVs) are NOT permitted.
  • Convertibles, cabriolets, and open-top cars must have AFTERMARKET structural rollover protection that complies with ASN Canada FIA rules (conforming to either Appendix C or D of this document).  ASN Canada FIA's aftermarket rollover protection requirement is NOT satisfied with factory rollover protection.  Please contact the event registrar for this event BEFORE registering if you are not sure whether your rollover protection is suitable.

SELF-TECH INSPECTION completed in advance of the event.  Inspection form can be found at http://nabmw.webs.com/documents/NABMW.Inspection.Form.PDF (tech form only ... disregard schedule that follows). Instructors may self tech.

BRAKE FLUID must be less than six months old as of the event date.  As an Instructor you will know that the energy required to stop a vehicle at speed must be dissipated as heat. Repeated application of the brakes on a road course will cause a significant heat buildup.  This heat can cause a number of underlying mechanical problems to become apparent, in particular that water absorbed into aging brake fluid will boil (referred to as "boiling the brakes").  Should this happen, there will be enough steam in the brake lines to cause a SUDDEN AND COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM. This is prevented when there is fresh brake fluid in the reservoir, lines and calipers.

HELMET:  Snell-approved M-2000 (motorcycle) or SA-2000 (motorsport) or newer helmets are permitted in all run groups. As an instructor, you will know that ALL Snell-approved helmets bear a Snell rating sticker, typically found by lifting up the helmet liner (you should not need to remove any glued portions of the liner to view the sticker).  Open-face helmets are preferred in vehicles with air bags; closed-face helmets are preferred in vehicles without air bags.
