GGC Spring 2020 Driving School @ Laguna Seca

WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca

About this event

WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca Driving School

Join the BMW CCA Golden Gate Chapter for the weekend of February 29th & March 1st, 2020 at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, CA! Laguna Seca is one of America’s most exciting and challenging race tracks, making it a great place to learn the art of high-performance driving from the dedicated team of experienced GGC instructors. You’ll go home with skills you can use on the roads every day as well as some great memories of laps at this famous racetrack.

Our events are driving schools, not open track days; every student is assigned an instructor for the duration of the event.  Our focus is on safety and learning. The price for this 2 day event is $750 for BMW CCA members ($798 for non-member and 1 year membership is included).

A new opportunity is now available for a select group of enthusiasts who want to take the HPDS experience to the next level — Group S. This is a solo run group and is intended for the most advanced students. Although there is no in-car instruction, Group S is not just open lapping. Students will work with instructors both in the classroom and on the track (with advanced driving exercises). Group S will foster advanced skills that are useful whether driving on clear track or in traffic. Group S drivers must already be comfortable in traffic, and will work on becoming even more proficient in traffic. The Chief Driving Instructors will review your qualifications for entry into this run group. Please ensure all relevant driving experience is noted in your registration.

The Advanced Data Coaching (ADC) option is available to both advanced (A) run group and Group S drivers. The ADC program is designed to take some of the guesswork out of evaluating driver performance. A data acquisition system and video camera will be mounted to your car. Before each session, you will meet with your driving coach to discuss goals. After each session, your data and video will be analyzed, progress will be assessed, and new goals will be set. This allows you to focus on developing the skills that are most important for you.  Group A drivers in ADC will have some in-car instruction, but the focus will be on the data. Registration for ADC program does not guarantee admission. Please ensure all relevant driving experience is noted in your registration.

Our HPDS and Advanced Data Coaching programs receive rave reviews from driving enthusiasts every year.  You'll go home with new skills that you can apply to your daily driving as well as some great memories of doing laps at this fantastic racetrack.

A block of rooms is available to students at the Hilton Garden Inn Monterey. You will receive booking details in your confirmation e-mail after you’ve registered.

Important information about the wait list:
Students, if you see the waitlist, please sign up anyway. We expect to accept a large number of students from the waitlist. We start with a conservative student count, and accept students from the waitlist as the instructor signups increase.

Instructors: You will always see the waitlist when you use the signup form. As instructors are screened, they are accepted.

Event requirements

Your car must be registered, you must be a licensed driver, 18 years of age or older, and you must be a BMW CCA member to be eligible for enrollment. (The Non-member registration fee includes a non-refundable one-year BMW CCA membership.) BMW CCA membership dues go up on February 1st, so be sure to register early if you’re not already a member!

Note: Attendance at a GGC Car Control Clinic is strongly recommended and is typically a prerequisite for first-timers who do not have previous high-performance driving experience. For this event, we may waive this requirement on a case-by-case basis if you are not able to attend a Car Control Clinic prior to the school.

Snell (M or SA) 2010 or 2015 helmets are required for all track events.

If you would like to share a car with another student, please contact the Registrar by clicking the Host Details to the right before registering.

Convertibles and T-top cars must have 5-point/6-point belts and arm restraints, as well as an approved roll bar installed.  Factory "rollover protection" for a soft top (i.e. BMW Z3 and Z4, Porsche Boxster) is not sufficient for the school.  Convertibles with hard tops, including folding hard tops, are NOT ALLOWED. No exceptions.

Examples of cars NOT ALLOWED include: Firebirds and Camaros with T-tops or convertibles; any Corvette other than the Z06 coupe and the C7; Porsche convertibles and Targas.  The Lotus Elise, Corvette C7 and Acura NSX, while targa-style cars, ARE ALLOWED due to its structural design only if the hard roof panel is in place (the soft roof panel is not sufficient).  It is essential that you email us to discuss these issues well in advance if you plan to bring a convertible or T-top car.  We will not give refunds if you sign up with an ineligible car.

All cars that go on track must pass a tech inspection before the event and the completed and signed Tech Form presented at event registration. The sound limit for this event is 92 dB. Sound limits are strictly enforced at Laguna Seca. Make sure that your car will pass sound checks so that you don’t lose any track time.

Cancellation policy: Any cancellations on or before 2/14/2020 pay $50.00 (or $98 for non-members, who will receive a 1-year BMW CCA membership). Cancellations after 2/14/2020 will not receive a refund or credit for any reason.

Please make sure to include or update your experience and your emergency contact info in your account when you register online.

Lodging: We have arranged for a block of rooms to be available to students at the Hilton Garden Inn Monterey. Look for booking details in your confirmation e-mail. Space is limited, so don’t wait too long to reserve a room!
