About this event

Spring Drive 2021 with optional overnight at Tara Country Inn

May 8th, 2021

Join the Allegheny Chapter of the BMW CCA on May 8th for our Annual Spring Drive. This year we will venture north on twisty roads over rolling hills to Oil Creek State park where we will have an optional box lunch picnic. Following lunch, we will travel west to Clark, Pa and the home of Tara Country Inn for a rest stop. Those choosing to stay overnight will check into the Inn, while those opting for the day trip will continue on the southbound route back towards home.

The drive will leave at 9:00 am from the Warrendale Village in Warrendale (908 Warrendale Village Dr, Warrendale, PA 15086). Participants are encouraged to arrive by 8:30 am, fueled up and ready to go. Groups will head northward towards Saxonburg, followed by East Brady, Emlenton and finally Oil Creek State Park. The Oil Creek Valley is the site of the world’s first commercial oil well. Oil Creek State Park tells the story of the early petroleum industry by interpreting oil boomtowns, oil wells, and early transportation. Scenic Oil Creek carves a valley of deep hollows, steep hillsides, and wetlands. We will enjoy an optional picnic lunch along the banks of the Oil Creek. Box lunches can be purchased for $10.

The afternoon has us traveling west into farm country as we traverse the numerous farms to our rest stop and optional overnight location, the Tara Country Inn. This elegant Greek Revival-style mansion, built in 1854, serves as the perfect country inn for a getaway. The award-winning Inn holds a rich history as well as several awards for excellence in serving travelers with authentic Southern charm and luxury.

Afterwards we will travel into Amish country where we will enjoy the numerous Amish homesteads and the Banks Covered Bridge. The Bridge is a wooden covered bridge in Wilmington Township, Lawrence County. It spans the Neshannock Creek southeast of New Wilmington. Constructed in 1889, the bridge is a Burr arch truss built on stone foundations and supported by steel girders; it is 121 feet long. Continuing southbound through the remote bi-ways we will end the trip in Zeilinople where everyone can jump onto I-79 for the dash home.

If you are interested in the optional overnight at the Tara Country Inn you can check out the hotel at the following link  https://tara-inn.com/about-tara-a-country-inn/. If you are interested in joining the overnight group please call and request Bill or Jennifer to  make your reservations. We have arranged for a social reception in one of the many common areas of the Inn with a cash bar and hot and cold hors d'oeuvres. Afterwards we enjoy dinner on our own at the Inn. Breakfast is included with the room rate of $250.

The trip is around 230 miles. We will make a rest stop in the morning and afternoon. Lunches can be provided for $10 per person or bring your own picnic. Everyone will be responsible for their own beverages.
