Wine Country Tour to California Gold Country, Napa, Sonoma and Mendocino

Whether you love wine or just want to get away to some of the best California countryside, you do not want to miss this unforgettable journey with your favorite driving club.  Join PCA-SDR as we take a week-long tour that includes the best wine country in America: Sonoma and Napa counties. This event has been incredibly popular and after three years we are overdue to do it again!

This nine day tour will begin on Saturday, April 9, 2022.  We will tour per the schedule below to finish on Sunday, April 17, 2022 (Easter Sunday).  Lodging for all 8 nights is included in the price and as well as four group dinners and three group lunches.  For the other meals there will be numerous opportunities for breakfast, lunch, and dinner each day. Go by yourselves or join together with friends old and new. The choice is up to you. Some of the best dining in the country is in the Napa area, numerous fantastic options both known and unknown. Take your pick based on your preference and your budget. A few group meals foster camaraderie amongst us while still providing you with time to explore new discoveries or visit old favorites. 

As you’ve come to expect, for those that are interested there will also be optional driving tours and optional organized wine tasting tours (extra fees) available. You will be sent tourist information over the coming weeks to help you plan your free time.

Here's how the week will flow:

Day 1:  Saturday-- This is a “get there” day.  We will depart EARLY from the San Diego area, arriving in Plymouth, CA, where we will stay for four nights.  This day will include a group lunch on the way, as well as a casual group dinner after we check in to our hotel.

Days 2-3: Sunday/Monday -- Enjoy California Gold country, home to wineries throughout the counties of Nevada, Placer, El Dorado, Amador, Calavaras, and more. In addition to wineries, you can explore numerous state parks, quaint towns and the rich history of the area. These two days are free days, however, on one day there will be an optional organized wine tasting tour (via bus-no need to drive-extra fee). On the other day, there will be an optional group driving tour for a few hours in the morning, where those interested can explore some local country roads.  Monday night will be our second group dinner.  Otherwise you are free to do your own thing, either alone or in groups of your own creation. There is much to do here: wine tasting on your own, numerous state and local parks of both historical and natural interest; similarly, many small towns and other tourist destinations exist in the area. A day trip to Lake Tahoe is another exciting possibility.

Day 4: Tuesday – On this day there will be a group driving tour down to the town of Sonora (an excuse to get to the southern end of Gold Country), where we will visit the home and studio of Kelly Telfer, who is a painter specializing in automotive-themed works, particularly Porsche. We will have a group lunch with him and his wife while enjoying his scenic property. Afterwards, you are free to explore the neighboring area which includes the nearby small towns of Sonora, Columbia and Murphys, as well as the ubiquitous wineries, etc. in the area.

Day 5: Wednesday – Today we say goodbye to Gold Country and take a scenic backroads route to Calistoga. There will be another group lunch along the way, as well as a group dinner after we arrive and check in to our hotel. We are in Calistoga for the next four nights.

Days 6, 7 & 8: Thursday – Saturday:  Three free days for you to enjoy. Calistoga finds us within an easy drive to many of the best wine regions California has to offer: Napa Valley, Sonoma Valley, Alexander Valley, Russian River Valley, Dry Creek Valley, Knights Valley and Anderson Valley (in Mendocino County). You will find Redwood forests, the phenomenal Pacific coastline, and numerous small towns to explore. World class restaurants, world famous vineyards and amazing views await you here! There will be two optional (bus) wine tasting tours, one in Napa and one in Sonoma (extra fees). The third day will have another optional group driving tour, again for just a few hours in the morning. Beyond that, these are free days. You are on your own to do your own wine tasting, enjoy ballooning, hiking, ziplining, or Segway tours and everything else the region has to offer. On Saturday we will have our final group dinner which will conclude the 2022 PCASDR Wine Tour.

Day 9: Sunday – Time to go home. Return at your own pace, on your own or in groups, that is up to you. You could even extend your trip here, or by stopping somewhere along the way during your journey back south.

The cost of the Week is $3199 per couple. (Single drivers~please contact me.) Price includes 8 nights of lodging, three group lunches, and four group dinners, and an unforgettable experience!  We have limited space available, please register NOW.

Registration fee is non-refundable due to hotel and restaurant reservations booked in advanced and for other planning purposes.  Should you need to cancel, you can transfer your tickets to someone else who is willing to take your place.  (This event will probably have a waitlist.)
