It is that time of the year where the car competitions begin in PCA regions throughout the United States and Canada. At the Redwood Region, we are offering a 3 hour course for new drivers who would like to give Autocross (AX) a try.
This is your opportunity to learn about autocross, how to prepare, you and your car for an event, and to learn driving techniques in a classroom setting. You'll be able to apply these new skills the following weekend at our Sunday, May 5thautocross at Sonoma Raceway.
Autocross is a sport of navigating your car through a defined course of pylons usually on a large parking lot. AX courses are set up using soft traffic pylons which will not damage your car. Events are run at speeds usually between 35-55 miles per hour, usually in second gear. Autocross is a "performance driving event" and a safe way to learn how to drive your car at its limit. AX will give you confidence in your driving ability, teaches you about your car’s brakes, puts you into the correct driving position in the car, lets you know the limits of your tire, but most important is FUN social gathering of Porsche folks.
The Northeast Region produced a great introductory autocross video: https://vimeo.com/120118219
