Georgia Museum of Art in the UGA campus Athens GA
Event Planners;Todd Emily and Daryl K Williams
The Georgia Museum of Art is a gem on UGA’s East Campus. Opened in 1948, then renovated and expanded in 2011, the 79,000-square-foot facility is home to over 10,000 works of art. The permanent collection includes American paintings donated by founder Alfred Heber Holbrook, 12 Italian Renaissance and Baroque paintings, southern decorative arts and more. Temporary exhibitions on view are: George Segal: Everyday Apparitions, Twists and Turns: Sculptures by Alice Aycock, Paper in Profile: Mixografia and Taller de Gráfica Mexicana, and Turned and Sculpted: Wood Art from the Collection of Arthur and Jane Mason. What a great way to spend a hot summer day. A docent (or two if our turnout warrants) will give us a tour of this wonderful facility pointing out some of the exhibits.
Lunch catered by Big City Bread will consist of: A platter of vine ripe tomatoes, with sliced fresh mozzarella cheese, fresh sweet basil, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar demi; mixed green salad topped with all-natural chicken breast, crispy fried Prosciutto ham, blanched asparagus and house mixed greens; and an assortment of chocolate petite fours, truffle bites, double espresso cookies and fresh whole strawberries.
After lunch you will be free to explore the museum more on your own, or to visit some other Athens sites.
