About this event

HIGH PERFORMANCE DRIVER SCHOOL
AUTO CLUB SPEEDWAY - THE ROVAL

Friday, May 12, 2017

Welcome to Audi Club SoCal's High Performance Driver School!

What is it?

  • It's a chance to drive your own car in a fun, safe, and supportive learning environment.
  • It's a chance to learn more about yourself and your car, and to enhance your driving skills.
  • It's a chance to meet and socialize with a diverse group of friendly individuals who embrace performance driving and really enjoy Audi automobiles.

Driving your own car on a race track, away from side streets and other distractions, is not only wonderful fun, it is the safest and most effective way to explore the capabilities of your car and its driver while learning advanced driving techniques.

Once you've experienced driving your own car on a race track you will know what the excitement is all about, and you will wonder why you waited so long to JUST DO IT!

Why Audi Club?

The best venues! Auto Club Speedway, located right here in the Los Angeles Basin, is within easy reach for a single day event. The ROVAL sports car course, incorporating the infield road course along with the main straight and banking of the NASCAR oval, is one of the most fun tracks in the Southwest. If it is your first or tenth time to an Audi driving event you will have a blast.

Drive your OWN car! During all driving exercises students will drive their own cars, and will have a club instructor assisting in developing better driving skills. This provides helpful input to ensure you get the most out of the experience, all in a safe learning environment.

All makes and models of coupes and sedans are welcome at SoCal Audi Club driving schools.

We train you! At Audi Club we don't just "drop you into the deep end"! If you are a Novice drivers you will learn about high performance driving in a brief classroom session, participate in car control exercises to get you up to speed, and will then join the more experienced drivers on the track for the remainder of the day. Whatever your level of experience, you will benefit from theory sessions tailored to your skill level and download sessions with your peers. In-car instruction and classroom seminars are included for free with every registration.

Safety First! Run groups are established to allow students to be on track with other drivers of similar experience. Beginning students will always have an instructor in the car during on-track driving sessions. This is not a race, so passing is allowed only on designated sections of the course and under controlled circumstances. Drivers with documented experience will be placed in a run group appropriate for their demonstrated skill level and their car's capabilities. In-car instruction and coaching is provided at all levels of driver experience.

Registration Fees: The student registration fee of only $349 represents an incredible bargain! The fee includes everything necessary for a day of fun with your car, including

  • NEW! The ROVAL!!! (Road course + OVAL) Yes, you will drive your own car on a real NASCAR track!
  • On-track instruction. A trained instructor in your right seat is available for every driver
  • Advanced online learning - free for first-timers and discounted for experienced drivers
  • Driving theory sessions at the track for all levels
  • Lunch at the track

HIGH PERFORMANCE DRIVER SCHOOL
AUTO CLUB SPEEDWAY - THE ROVAL

Friday, May 12, 2017

Welcome to Audi Club SoCal's High Performance Driver School!

What's New?

  • Auto Club Speedway - Audi Club members have frequently asked us to hold a High Performance Driver school at conveniently-located Auto Club Speedway, but the high cost of renting a NASCAR facility has kept us away - until now! Audi Club has partnered with Hooked on Driving to bring you this joint event on Friday, May 12, 2017.
  • Roval (Sports Car Course) MapThe ROVAL - Auto Club Speedway is a BLAST to drive! The Sports Car Course is known as the ROVAL because it uses the interior Road course consisting of a series of progressively long straights with challenging transitions then connects, through a series of turns known as the 'playground', to the main straight and Turns One and Two of the world-class medium-banked OVAL - giving the flavor of the banking without the huge speed that would come with driving the entire oval. This is a lifetime driving experience that is unique to any other track this side of Daytona. You don't want to miss it!
  • Hooked on Driving - HOD is renting the track and have invited Audi Club's High Performance Driving School to join them. HOD's registration process and procedures will apply for certain aspects of the event, but as always at an Audi Club Driving School, in-car instruction will be provided by Audi Club instructors.

Event Description

This is not a race or even a racing school, but rather an event where the primary focus is SAFETY, FUN, and LEARNING. You will improve your own personal performance behind the wheel.

You will be learning and practicing the principles and art of high speed, precision driving in a fun, relaxed, and organized school setting. The event is conducted at a race track under close supervision by experienced and trained Audi Club instructors. You will learn techniques for handling and controlling your own vehicle. This training is designed so you may safely explore your capabilities as a driver and those of your vehicle. It will help prepare you for emergencies that may occur in normal driving situations.

At no time will you be pushed or encouraged to go any faster than is comfortable for you. All participants will be provided with instruction and organized into run groups in accordance with prior experience, demonstrated skill, and type of vehicle. This is for your safety and will enhance your learning by providing an opportunity to share the day's experiences with your peers.

Additional Information

Frequently Asked Questions:
Why should I sign up with Audi Club instead of directly with Hooked on Driving? The price is the same.
Audi Club SoCal runs a full driving school and provides instruction at all skill levels, both in-car and driving theory, using Audi Club's own trained instructors. Actually, the Audi Club program is cheaper for first-timers and for many others. HOD charges $50 extra for first-timers because they pay their coaches - plus Team HOD membership is required if this is your first HOD event of the year. So your total saving by going with Audi Club could be $99! If you have attended one of our driving schools at Buttonwillow, Spring Mountain, or Willow Springs you know what a high-quality program Audi Club runs.

What is the Hooked on Driving program like? Hooked on Driving is an excellent program - that's why we have joined forces with them at this event. The difference is that HOD's classroom and coaches are really only for first-time beginners - although second timers can request a coach, the rest of the advanced students are usually on their own. Audi Club provides just about everyone with an in-car instructor. Audi Club instructors frequently attend Hooked on Driving track days when they just want track time, because HOD runs a safe, controlled program with limited run group size, unlike many other track-day providers. Quite a few Audi Club instructors even coach for HOD.

Passing Protocol: Passing in all run groups will be by Point-By on either side. Passing will only occur in designated passing zones. Very Important: the car being passed is expected to drive their normal line, therefore the passing car should plan on moving off-line to complete the pass. Off Line typically means toward the side of the upcoming turn, although this can vary. Audi Club passing zones are designated with a green cone at the start of the passing zone and a yellow cone at the end of the passing zone. All passes must be complete before the end of the passing zone. No late passing into the corners ("dive bombing") is permitted - violators will be black-flagged.

First Timer? If this is your first time at an Audi Club driving school, Welcome!
A general introduction to Audi Club SoCal driver schools is available here
First-Timers Introduction and Preparation. (Note that this document was prepared for most Audi Club driver schools which are two-day events. Some items in this document will not apply to this one-day driver school.)

Experienced Driver? Are you an experienced driver but registering with Audi Club SoCal for the first time? Please make sure your driving history in your MotorsportReg.com Profile is up to date. This will help us place you with an appropriate instructor. Note that advanced drivers may be pre-soled at this event. Have questions about your qualifications? Please contact Alex Whitney, our Chief Instructor, at cdi@audiclubsocal.org

CaliPhotography logoPhotos: Professional photographer CaliPhotography.com will be present taking photos of your car on track. Visit their website to view and purchase photos of the event.

Garages: Rent a day garage for $50. Follow the instructions provided during the second step of the registration process (HOD enrollment).

HPDE Insurance: You may purchase HPDE insurance for your car while participating in this joint Audi Club / HOD driving school. Because both Hooked on Driving and Audi Club have an exemplary safety record, a discount is available. Visit the Hooked on Driving page or the Audi Club page on LocktonMotorsports.com for details. Find this event by searching on the date and track to purchase your policy online.

>> REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT <<: Because this is a joint event with Hooked on Driving, registration is a little different than other Audi Club events. It is a two-step registration process. First you will register with us for the driving school, then you will enroll and pay for the track day through Hooked on Driving.

Complete the driving school registration process with Audi Club here on MotorsportReg.com. After you complete check-out (your account will not be charged), you will be provided with a link to the private Audi Club page on HookedOnDriving.com where you will register and pay for the track day. You must use the dedicated Audi Club page on the HOD website to get the special Audi Club pricing!

Again, your registration will not be complete until you enroll in the track day and pay your fee on the private Audi Club page at Hooked on Driving.
