Midwestern Council April Driver School

Blackhawk Farms Raceway

About this event

ON-LINE PRE-REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN! A full information packet is here: 2021 DS1 W2W Entry - final.v3.pdf

Midwestern Council of Sports Car Clubs is calling all members, racers, and volunteers! We will be hosting the April 2021 Midwestern Council Driver's School at Blackhawk Farms Raceway. This school will include sessions for Wheel-to-Wheel Closed-wheel and Open-wheel cars. You will spend the entire day either on the track or receiving constant feedback from experienced instructors. Wheel-to-Wheel students will receive an MC (MCSCC) 2021 Novice Competition License upon successful completion, and can sign up for the race on Sunday!

Note to all HPDE/Autocross drivers, Instruction will be provided.

We are defining HPDE/Autocross Practice sessions to also be available with a limit of 15 cars. As an extension to the school, we will also provide an opportunity for a limited number of W-W Track Time slots for those who want to tune up and shake out the cobwebs before the first race Sunday.

The Wheel-to-Wheel Drivers School has two parts. A required classroom session will be conducted online with an online quiz at the end of the classroom session. This classroom session provides drivers all the information that they will need to pass the test and on-track portions of the school. This will cover flags, passing, basic cornering techniques, and much more!

The online portion of the school is optional for Autocross/HPDE and Track Time attendees, who are welcome to sit in as well if desired. Then please be at the track early AM on Saturday and prepared for a long but rewarding day!

A current medical form is required before hitting the track. The MC 2021-22 form is available here and can be uploaded (scan or photo) when you register. We also accept SCCA and FAA medicals.

MCSCC does not guarantee that a student will receive a wheel-to-wheel competition license. MCSCC has licensing reciprocity with other racing organizations, because of this, MCSCC considers the licensing standards and requirements of other organizations in addition to its own standards and requirements.

  • Applicable Standards:
    1. The student has demonstrated a positive general attitude and sportsmanship. This includes traits such as being receptive to instruction and participating respectfully in group meetings and execution of the instruction provided.
    2. The student has gained a satisfactory score on the Wheel-to-Wheel exam.
    3. The student can demonstrate detailed knowledge of flags, race-start procedure, and all other aspects of a race weekend that are covered by the Exam.
    4. The student has demonstrated composure, a good attitude, and Track Presence.
      • Track Presence is defined here as "confidence, awareness, and the overall ability to cope with competition and high-speed driving".
    5. The student has demonstrated competence with Shifting, Braking, and Cornering Techniques.
    6. The student has demonstrated high-speed driving competence.
    7. The student has demonstrated Use of Hand Signals.
    8. The student has demonstrated alertness (use of mirrors, monitoring gauges, and paying attention to corner stations).
    9. The student has demonstrated competence and safety in Passing (situational awareness and execution).
